Sensuously SINthesized

Fred Miller - Back & Blues

Fred Miller - Bolero

Dive into sin, let's plug the synth: here comes an infinite subject for astonishment, one of the most outsider items dedicated to modular synths. It is beautiful. The woman is happy. The sounds are brilliant. Ravel would have been proud.

The complete identity of credited composer Fred Miller never got revealed.

Stiroes of disck and essas

Hoistires de tibes et d'ulcs - L'accident

Hoistires de tibes et d'ulcs -

Hoistires de tibes et d'ulcs - Si

Hoistires de tibes et d'ulcs - Les menus travaux

This is the kind of item that can't even be considered rare. Easy to find, it simply remains under the collector's radar because of its vague junk aura. But it's way more than another collection of these bawdy songs french people excell into: well-composed and written, this anonymous bunch of sexually explicit songs save themselves from the expected vulgarity with an original piano / organ drum machine combo layered on classy lyrics. Classy, well, as much as can be.

No label, few credits, ... At most three aliases, "Mac Fornick" being the most notable. A surprising graphomania seems to be the only clue we have regarding the man, acccording to the unusual amount of "signed copies" avalaible online. Even less infos regarding the mysterious"G.Crisland", and we will also never know if this J.dupont credited has anything to do with the one who commited La danse des pompiers ... Men fade away, talent remains.

Les héroïnes du mal

Les héroïnes du mal - Le Chien

Another example of mink-lined 7inch: frustrated by the chamber orchestra main theme ? Turn it to get a surprisingly synthetic B-side that will cuddle your ears. From polish director Walerian Borowczyk, these Immoral Women belong to the list of now classic erotic french oddities.

A few names from the casting might sound more or less familiar to you: on the woman's side Gaëlle Legrand and Pascale Christophe, on the men's one Jean-Claude "What a flash" Dreyfus or the institutionnal Henri Piegay (a name we met a few days ago here regarding another 7")

Real life being sometimes more crazily creative and unexpectable than fiction, you'll find as co-composer the now right-wing deputee, air pilot, photograph and musician Olivier Dassault: a surrealistic profile that makes him the most unexpectable member of a Dassault lineage I will let to your appreciation ... You might also note that he's actually responsible for a countless amount of sonic signatures he composed across the years for clients such as Le Futuroscope, Institut du Monde Arabe, Tati or Vulcania, among many others ...

Philippe D'Aram - Le suicide

Besides, the movie also involves some people related to Jean Rollin, like actress Marina Pierro (La Morte Vivante) and soundtrack composer Philippe D'Aram, in charge of the score for Les deux orphelines vampires, Fascination, La Morte Vivante and Perdues dans New York, all recently reissued by Crippled Dick Hot Wax and Lucertola media.

Back to our movie director, Borowczyk in his early years also acquired recognition with his experimental animation movies: here an interesting example alongside Chris Marker, which soundtrack by polish contemporary composer Andrzej Markowski challenges many experiments of the french GRM at the time.

French heat #2

Bernard Gérard et Jacques Datin - Fait chaud

This is what I call "appropriate":

Under one of the most brilliant artwork ever seen among the dusty piles of french 7" production, you'll find a gently rascal easy-listening tune setup by a very specific team of people at the time:

Co-composer Bernard Gerard (with Jacques Datin) was a specialist in writing scores for various french movies (Melville, Lautner, as well as one of Michel Magne's favorite fellows and arrangers. Besides, Anne Germain who sings the soft background vocal, sang on some of the Magne soundtracks for Jean Yanne (see the well-known Jesus Java), often written or co-composed by her husband Claude Germain.
She also got involved in the production of dozens of flexible commercial 7" intented at the time for advertisement.

Finally, let's say that the charming dialog here involves french actor Henri Piegay alongside Dany Danielle, who strangely seems to have a kind of specialisation regarding weather and season songs.

The pink portal

Togo Ken - 好きなんや

Some music artefacts are small by the size, but may concentrate in 7 inches so many elements, that they can easily turn into an iconic crossroads for those who care.

Related in many ways to the world of Tenjosajiki / Terayama Shuji, this EP was reissued in 2004 as a bonus cd to the Baramon LP edition: Baramon, "The Pink Portal", or a provocative gender-troubling poisoned sonic storm run by a group of gay and transgender comedians, with compositions by J.A.Seazer or Kawachi Kuni.

Yamashita Takeo, mighty figure renowed especially for some anime soundtracks such as Lupin III, or Sabu to ichi torimono hikae, scored this Togo Ken EP, built all around the crude yet sensible lyrics and striking singing of this long-time activist in the gay and queer scene: famous for relentlessly challenging the elections and experiencing various troubles with the censorship, it is not a surprise that Togosan crossed the way of Terayama's group, which was a nest at the time for many wild children as much a source of worries and investigation for the police regarding the high degree of social critic generated by its activities, movies, happenings and theater experiences.

I'd like to recommend the lecture of Togo Ken's detailed portrait avalaible for readers here.

Also, take this post as a first opportunity to modestly introduce here the wide world of Tenjosajiki related records: these precious testimonies for adventurous and sincere times you sometimes feel lost are avalaible thanks to the efforts of White Noise records and Belle Antique. Check the haunting Hatsukoi Jigoku Hen, or the collaged Shintokumaru, alongside the countlesses contributions of composer J.A. Seazer to other artists' records such as Carmen Maki: must-have items, burning gems.

Sexy Poem

Sandra Julien - モノローグ~ジュテームはさよならの始り

Sandra Julien - 経験

In the constellation of french nymphs and naiads from the 70s, Sandra Julien's destiny appear as much unique and stellar as these blessed recordings, revered by many as a holy grail, born under unique circumstances.

Sandra's carreer got quickly split between France and Japan, and wrapped in a veil of delicate eroticism crossing the way of Jean Rollin for Shiver of the Vampires (whose soundtrack by Acanthus is reissued on these days by (again...) Finders Keepers)

A kind of actress whose magnetism resists to the Max Pecas obviously titled I am a Nymphomaniac. And one of the rares to cross the seas to enter the pinku eiga's hall of fame. Actress for Norifumi Suzuki (known here as the director of Le Couvent de la bête sacrée, distributed in France thanks to the efforts of Jean-Pierre Dionnet), she appeared there in cult pinkus such as Tokugawa Sex Kinshi Rei, or Gendai Porno Den Sentensei Inpu: required keys to understand the original context of this item.

While original LP is absolutely scarce, the reissue on CD as part of a memorable Oiroke box also sold out in no time.

There is a kind of gap line crossing the field of Oiroke production, that a look at the Tiliqua records will quickly reveal: while some records are often based on actresses' spoken words layered on background instrumentals (Naomi Tani or Mabuki Junko ...), this one, as for Ike Reiko, Kuwabara Yukiko or Flower Megu, is a moving opportunity to hear Sandra Julien's natural singing recorded as fresh as a first take.

Between these soft and delicate tunes, producer /engineer decided to leave some speeches elements in which she comments the recording situation, both amused and truly embarassed:

"Did they really record it ? What is it gonna sound like ? It's gonna be awful ! I'm just having fun, it's a rehearsal... It's not the way to sing ! I never do this in France..."

Le coeur fou

Ewa Swann - Pour quelques secondes

Ewa Swann - Le coeur fou

Extract from Le Coeur Fou OST, with an insidious arrangement by Jean-Claude Vannier in which the Ewa swann's vocal, so close to Françoise Hardy or Jane Birkin, slides on a viciously detuned beautiful lament background.

Unique incursion in the field of chanson for this slightly forgotten actress from the 70s, who used to be a soft eroticism icon, but also used to share the cast with actors like Michael Lonsdale, Bruno Cremer or Marie-Christine Barraut.

Considering her filmography in details, you won't be surprised to sometimes find the name of Claude Mulot, both famous for the cult La Rosé écorchée (The Blood Rose) reissued by Mondo Macabro, director of tough movie La Saignée, but also writer or director for an impressive amount of 70s french rascal items: On se calme et on boit frais à Saint Tropez, Sexyrella ... And another, well, perfumed skin related one, casting another legendary singing actress the next post is gonna be related to.
